Imperial Hue — Vietnam's ancient capital

Tour from Da Nang

From Da Nang to Hue: where dragons whisper legends

Imperial Hue, the Hai Van Pass and an abandoned water park lead into a world of old palaces, misty mountains and forgotten places. Today people come for the ancient citadel, pagodas, imperial tombs and the legendary Hai Van Pass. But once it was believed that the city's fate was decided by a Heavenly Dragon…

Long ago the Heavenly Dragon came down from the misty mountains to the Perfume River. It showed the emperor where to build his capital and promised to protect the city from wars and floods. In gratitude, thirteen generations of rulers brought it golden rice and incense. But the empire fell, and people forgot their guardian. The offended Dragon left the Citadel and went to Thuy Tien Lake. Years later a water park opened there. The noise woke the Dragon. The water boiled, and it soared above the lake, frozen forever as a giant stone. The music stopped. The jungle slowly swallowed the concrete.

They say that after the people left, only crocodiles remained with the Dragon — its last living guards.
